To make everything as safe as possible for everyone, we've introduced revised opening times and pre-booking for all our museums.

To book your visit, please ring the relevant museum on the number below. Please note that to guarantee admission, places must be booked in advance.

Opening times and how to book may change at short notice, please check this page before planning a visit.

If you need any assistance ahead of visiting, please ring the museum you would like to visit or email us and we'll be happy to help. Please don't email us to pre-book unless you need assistance and are unable to ring us. We're rarely in front of a computer all day, so ringing really is the fastest way to book.

We don't have dates for re-opening Chester History and Heritage yet, but we're working on it.

Your safety

Our priority when reopening our museums is to ensure the safety of staff and visitors.

These are some of the measures we have put in place to protect everyone:

Social distancing
To maintain social distancing, we are reducing the number of visitors at our museums and operating one-way systems.

Personal protection and face coverings
As of 8 August 2020 you must by law now wear a face covering in museums.

Hand sanitiser
Hand sanitiser stations are available in all museums at entrances, exits and in galleries.

Feeling unwell
If you or anyone you live with is not feeling well, please postpone your visit and come and see us another time.

Your experience

Although we have made some changes to how we operate, staff are working hard at all museums to ensure that you have a memorable and safe experience.

This is what you can expect when visiting us:

  • All museums will be operating one-way systems to control visitor numbers and prevent overcrowding.
  • To support Cheshire West and Chester Council’s involvement with the NHS Test and Trace service, all visitors will be asked to provide contact details. Following government guidelines, NHS Test and Trace QR codes are on display in museum receptions so that visitors with the NHS COVID-19 app can check-in, as an alternative to providing contact details.
  • To ensure the safety of all visitors, we have temporarily removed some of our interactive exhibits.
  • We are doing extra cleaning at regular intervals in all our museum areas. To allow this to take place, some facilities will be closed for short periods.
  • Some of our outdoor areas will remain closed until further notice.
  • Some of our shops are open as normal, others are offering a limited range of gifts, which can be booked in advance. Please check 'Visit Us' pages for each museum for more information.
  • To protect staff and visitors, protective screens are in place in all retail and reception spaces. We recommend, where possible, making cashless payments.
