Object identification
There is a finds identification day held at the Grosvenor Museum the third Monday of most months, with a Finds Liaison Officer. The Finds Liaison Officer will help identify your find, and log it onto a national database as part of the Portable Antiquities Scheme.
Finds Liaison sessions run from 10:30am-3.30pm. You can just turn up, but it’s advisable to call to make an appointment on the day. For more information, or to book an appointment on the day, please call 01244 972197.
Object donations and enquiries
West Cheshire Museums is responsible for telling the stories of the region and its people for present and future generations. The museum service is interested in objects with a strong Cheshire West and Chester connection, story, or provenance. This includes items made, sold, or used in the area, or owned by local people and families in the past or present. Please provide as much information as possible when submitting the donation form so the Curatorial team can assess whether the object/s offered fit our collecting policy and can be accepted into the collection.
We are particularly interested in collecting:
- Chester-hallmarked silver
- 21st century social history and costume
- Work by woman artists
- Objects relating to environmentalism and climate change
We cannot accept donations of books, maps, pamphlets, or photographs. These should be directed to Cheshire Archives: Donation and deposit

Please do not post or drop off objects at the museum without an appointment with a curator. We reserve the right to dispose of unsolicited donations as we see fit.
